11 October 2011- UN-led Delegation Visits the National Assembly of Belize |

A two-member led delegation from the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Emil Arguelles, and the President of the Senate, Honourable Andrea Gill, today, 11 October, 2011, in the Member's Room of the National Assembly in Belmopan. The visit of Mr. Avinash Bikha, Project Coordinator from UNDESA, and Mr. Franklyn Michael, National Project Officer from the Caribbean Centre for Development Administration (CARICAD), is made possible under the Project "Support to ICT Strategic Planning in Parliaments of the Caribbean" through the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament and in partnership with CARICAD. The project is funded by the European Union. 

The Project aims to promote transparency, accountability, democratic participation and good governance in the Caribbean by empowering the Parliaments of this region to better fulfill their democratic functions and contributing to their institutional strengthening through ICT. While in Belize, Mr. Bikha and Mr. Michael will carry out an assessment of the state of ICT of the National Assembly of Belize and outline gaps and opportunities for subsequent strategic recommendations for its improvement. The technical mission will be undertaken from the 11 to the 14 of October, 2011.
