The 16th Public Hearing held in the National Assembly Chambers in Belmopan today began at 9:58 A.M. At todays hearing three witnesses were scheduled to appear before the Committee, Mr. Barton Middleton, Ms. Therese Chavarria and Mr. Omar Philips.

The first witness that appeared before the Committee was Mr. Barton Middleton. Mr. Middleton is the alleged “Immigration Agent” in the case whereby eight visa foils went missing at the Belize Western Border Station and which is mentioned in paragraph 10.2, pages 13 and 14 of the Auditor General’s Report on Visa. The Committee questioned Mr. Middleton on the above allegations made against him.

Due to time constraining, Ms. Therese Chavarria and Mr. Omar Philips were asked to return until further notice.

All Members of the Committee were present at the public hearing, except for Senator Eamon Courtenay. The meeting concluded at 2:10 P.M. The Senate Special Select Committee is scheduled to meet again until Wednesday, 26th  April 2017, to continue its public hearing.
