The House of Representative met on Monday, May 20, 2019, at 10:10 A.M. in the Chamber of the National Assembly Building, Belmopan for a Special Sitting. At the days sitting, the Speaker, the Honourable Laura Tucker-Longsworth was not present, therefore the Honourable Omar Figueroa, presided over the Sitting. The purpose of the Special Sitting of the House of Representatives was for the House to introduce and pass the Maritime Areas (Amendment) Bill, 2019, as well as to introduce the Tax Administration and Procedure Bill, 2019.

1. Maritime Areas (Amendment) Bill, 2019.

Bill for an Act to amend the Maritime Areas Act, Chapter 11 of the Substantive Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2011, by repealing the provisions of it that had the declared purpose of providing a framework to seek a negotiated definitive agreement on territorial differences with the Republic of Guatemala, and leaving in force the provisions of it that define the maritime areas of Belize on the basis of international law.

2. Tax Administration and Procedure Bill, 2019.

Bill for an Act to establish the Belize Tax Service Department; to facilitate the official and effective administration and collection of domestic taxes; to provide for tax procedures; to provide civil and criminal penalties for violating tax laws; and to provide for connected and incidental matters.

All Members were present at the Sitting except for the Honourable Gaspar Vega. The meeting came to an end at 11:30 A.M.
