Belmopan, Belize – The National Assembly of Belize commenced the 2025–2026 National Budget Debate today, Monday, May 26, 2025, marking Day 1 of a three-day event that is central to the country’s democratic process and fiscal planning.

Members of the House of Representatives convened in the Chamber of the National Assembly Building in Belmopan to begin their formal debate on

 the proposed estimates and appropriations for the upcoming financial year. This annual debate provides an opportunity for elected officials to present their positions on the national budget, highlight their constituencies’ priorities, and hold the government to account on its fiscal and developmental agenda.

The opening day featured a range of passionate and insightful contributions from both sides of the House as members addressed critical national issues including economic recovery, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and public service delivery.
