Friday, 23rd February 2024, the National Assembly of Belize welcomed the students enrolled at the Regional Language Centre at the University of Belize for a tour.

The group of about 45 students in the company of 2 Instructors sat in the Public Galleries where they received a presentation on the functions of the Legislative Branch of Government by a Parliamentary Officer accompanied by the Senior Clerk Assistant of the National Assembly. The students are nationals of various countries throughout Central America such as Honduras, Panama, and Columbia, to name a few, as well as Cuba, Mexico, and Taiwan.

The students got a chance to view the Chambers, hear the process by which draft legislation is passed into law, and learn the process whereby persons become Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Even though the students are enrolled in a program to learn English as their second language, they were attentive and engaged in meaningful discussions after the presentation.
