Today, October 12th, 2016, was the date set by the Honourable President of the Senate, Honourable Lee Mark Chang, for the Special Select Committee to convene in the Committee Room of the the National Assembly of Belize in Belmopan. The purpose of the first Meeting of the Committee was to elect a Chairman.
Present at the Meeting were Honourable Senator Lee Mark Chang, Honourable Senator Carla Barnett, Honourable Senator Aldo Salazar, Honourable Senator Elena Smith, Honourable Senator Ashley Rocke, Honourable Senator Markhelm Lizarraga. It is of note that no Opposition Senator was present at the Meeting.
However, a Chairman was not elected. The Meeting was held in public and the Committee took questions from the various media houses that were present.
The Meeting began at 10:43 A.M. and was adjourned at 12:58 P.M. The next Meeting of the Committee is scheduled for Wednesday, 19th October at 10:00 A.M. in the Committee Room of the National Assembly of Belize. It is expected that at this Meeting a Chairman shall be elected.
