On Wednesday, 19th August 2020, a Special Sitting of the Senate was held in the Chamber of the National Assembly Building. The meeting began with a moment of silence requested by the President for all the people that lost their life due to COVID-19 not only in Belize but worldwide, and then a word of prayer was done by Senator Rev. Ashley Rocke.
On the Orders of the Day was one (1) Paper that was ordered to lie on the Table. That Paper is Supplementary Appropriation (No.3) Schedule for Fiscal Year 2020/2021.
As well, there were two (2) Motions that were debated and adopted. Those Motions are Resolution Authorizing the Accession by Belize to the Agreement Establishing the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security Motion, 2020; and Extending the Period of Public Emergency in the Country of Belize Declared by Proclamation of the Governor-General on 6th August 2020, Motion, 2020.
And lastly there were four (4) Bills that were brought from the House of Representatives and were passed. Those are:
1. General Revenue Supplementary Appropriation (2020/2021) (No.3) Bill, 2020.
2. Crime Control and Criminal Justice (Amendment) Bill, 2020.
3. Customs Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2020.
4. Labour (Amendment) Bill, 2020.
All Members of the Senate were present. The Senate was adjourned at 2:10 P.M.
