Today, 29th July 2020, there was a Special Sitting of the Senate in the Chamber of the National Assembly Building. The meeting began with a word of prayer by Senator Isabel Bennett, who also requested a moment of silence for all businesspeople that have been affected or lost their life due to gun violence.

On the Orders of the Day were four (4) Papers that were ordered to lie on the Table. Those Papers were:

*Supplementary Appropriation (No.2) Schedule for Fiscal Year 2020/2021.

*Report of the Integrity Commission of Belize For the Period August 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018.

*Annual Report of the Integrity Commission of Belize For the Period January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019.

*Belize Government Lotteries Exclusive License (2020-2030) and Government of Belize/Brad’s Gaming Group Limited Contract.

As well, there was one (1) Loan Motion that was debated and adopted. That Loan Motion was The OPEC Fund for International Development – US$10,000,000 – Support to COVID-19 Food Assistance Program Loan Motion, 2020.

And lastly there were four (4) Bills that were brought from the House of Representatives and were passed at today’s Sitting. Those are:

1. General Revenue Supplementary Appropriation (2020/2021) (No.2) Bill, 2020.

2. Business Names (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

3. Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

4. Limited Liability Partnership (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

The Honourable Dr. Carla Barnett spoke on the adjournment on “The implications of the actions by the Port of Belize to make staff redundant and reduce salaries outside of the normal processes that have guided  industrial relations for many years.” All Members of the Senate were present at today’s Sitting. The Senate was adjourned at 1:57 P.M.
