The Senate convened in the Chambers of the National Assembly Building in Belmopan today, Friday, 4th June 2021, for a Special Sitting of the Senate. The meeting began at 10:05 A.M. with the Prayers done by the Honourable Carolyn Trench-Sandiford, President of the Senate. On the days agenda were 3 Bills brought from the House of Representatives which were:

1. Income and Business Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

2. Court of Appeal (Amendment) (No.2) Bill, 2021.

3. Public Sector Emoluments and Allowances Reduction Bill, 2021.

Bills 1 and 2 were passed, and the Public Sector Emoluments and Allowances Reduction Bill, 2021, was returned to the House of Representatives with amendment.

As well, there was 1 Paper that was ordered to lie on the Table which is the 9/1/14 – Acquisition of a New Passport System.

And lastly there were 3 Motions that were introduced. Those are:

1. Motion to Consider the Approval by the National Assembly of the Disposition of the Commerce Bight Port to Recological Systems Limited, 2021.

2. Resolution Approving the Appointment of Members of the Mines and Minerals Dispute Board Motion, 2021.

3. Resolution Authorizing the Ratification by Belize of the Revised Standard Text of the Small Quantities Protocol Under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement in Connection to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) Motion, 2021.

However, the Motion to Consider the Approval by the National Assembly of the Disposition of the Commerce Bight Port to Recological Systems Limited, 2021, was disapproved and the other 2 Motions  were adopted.

All Members of the Senate were present at today’s Special Sitting. The meeting was adjourned at 1:37 P.M.
