Today, Monday 29th August 2022, there was a Special Sitting of the Senate. The meeting began at 9:00 A.M. with the Belizean Prayer offered by Senator Isabel Bennett. Shortly thereafter, there was the Oath of Allegiance taken by Temporary Senator Veronica Camara, alternate for Senator Michael Peyrefitte who was unable to attend today’s sitting.
On the Orders of the Day were the following:
There were two (2) Papers that were ordered to lie on the Table.
No. 30/1/14 – Supplementary Appropriation (No.2) Schedule for Fiscal Year 2022/2023.
No. 31/1/14 – Supplementary Appropriation (No.3) Schedule for Fiscal Year 2022/2023.
There were 2 Motions that were introduced which are:
1. Resolution Recommending the Appointment of a Person to Act as Auditor General Motion, 2022.
2. Resolution Approving Statutory Instruments Formally Signed into Law and Published in the Gazette to Give Effect to the Conservation Commitments Specified in Clause 1, Milestone 1 and Clause 2, Milestone 2 of Exhibit A of the Conservation Agreement Motion, 2022.
There was a division called by Senator Elena Smith on the Resolution Recommending the Appointment of a Person to Act as Auditor General Motion, 2022. However that resulted in 9 Senators voting Yes, and 4 Senators voting No. Therefore the two above mentioned Motions were adopted.
Also, there were 7 Bills that were brought from the House of Representatives and passed at today’s sitting. Those Bills are:
