Today, Wednesday, 9th February 2022, there was a Special Sitting of the Senate in the National Assembly’s Chamber in Belmopan. The meeting began with the Belizean Prayer by Senator Bishop Alvin Benguche. The Orders of the Day was a short one, nevertheless there were meaningful debates on the Bill and Motions.
There was 1 Bill brought from the House of Representatives that went through all its stages which is the General Revenue Supplementary Appropriation (2021/2022) (No. 3) Bill, 2022.
There were 3 Papers that were ordered to lie on the Table. Those are:
- Supplementary Appropriation (No.3) Schedule for Fiscal Year 2021/2022.
- Supply Agreement for Petroleum Products – Sol Belize Limited and the Government of Belize.
- Central Bank of Belize Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for Fiscal Year 2022.
As well, there were 2 Motions that were adopted as follows:
- Resolution Authorizing the Ratification by Belize of the Multilateral Convention to Implement Tax Treaty Measures to Prevent Base Erosion and Profit Shifting Motion, 2022.
- Domestic Violence in Belize Motion, 2022.
At today’s Special Sitting, all Senators were present, except for Senator Sheena Pitts, therefore, Temporary Senator Jacklyn Burns was once again alternate in her absence.
